Ocean doing Ocean Things

A quick look at the surf the last few days and a small slice of life here at the Light.

And how about that boat doing a drive by near Minot Light?

This is an improved look from up top.

A big crowd gathered yesterday to see the impact of Hurricane Erin on this coast. Lots of splashing, no flooding or push over. People had to work at it too. There was paving going on that made it tough to get to the Point. It seems to be setting down now.

I had guests this past week. Judy, Jennifer, and John Quinlan sat in the yard with me for an hour or so with John’s son John. We go way back and boy was it easy to pick things right up. Jen told me a great story about my mother which I had not heard and I got to tell a grandson just how generous his grandparents had been to me as a kid. All the best things happen with old friends.

The Friday before my friend JoAnn had dropped in on a trip here from Chicago and we caught up right up until the Spencer Preservation Group ( one of the Lighthouse restoration contractors) stepped up with a presentation on the scope of the project. You can find the video of that at this link. Glad to have Jo and her sister Janice as well as this well made talk on a sunny Friday

If you have not checked it out yet, you might want to take a look at the swing of the Minot camera from the beach to the Tower. A fantastic look at one of the prettiest and most dangerous pieces of water around. You can see the World War Two conning tower and on the clearest of days you can see Boston Light.

With the tide coming up the crowds are coming back once again. Be on the lookout for many, many pictures of the surf knocking the North Jetty. Here is what it looks like right now from the window level of the light.
