Wind was the issue this week and we got a big hand from Bob Chessia, Cam MacDonald and the Facilities department. Dave Biagini was the hero of the tale.
The wind knocked a plant stand into a window in the utility room. Two storms, one screen, and a lower pane in the casement were broken. Julie was on duty and made all the right calls. Those calls resulted in Dave arriving, addressing the casement window in what seemed like minutes, and promising to return on Monday to address the storm windows and the screen.
It was up to me to run the shop vac until it was full of glass and to sweep the driveway, which was also full of glass. I believe we will still be finding pieces in July like you do with pine needles from the Christmas Tree. Additionally, the plastic shed which hides barrels, gardening kit, and the lawnmower saw the cover torn off. I think I have a temporary answer to that which should get us through the winter with no more harm done. Lots of other stuff moved and the weather station was pushed over by the gale as well. I will be getting new bolts for that in my next trip to the hardware store.
I also checked all the web cams this morning as we have been having the internet service drop out with these winds. When that happens there is a reset and sometimes some of the addresses change. I think the connection on the pole is pretty fragile as we have had to call for service several times in the last year. As of right now all of the cameras are live.

To wrap up the year here are a couple of details of Christmas at Scituate Light. We had Betty Kincaid and David Ball of the Cedar Point Association over this week to bring us some gifts in the tradition of Flying Santa. We think we get the best of the trade but it is great all the same to be part of such a long standing practice. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

The first blog post went up on December 31, 2008. We were living at the Schoolhouse waiting out turn. My brother and I recreated a recipe my Mother always passed off as her own in a kitchen as big as a phone booth. That recipe was actually on the back of every jar of Fluffernutter. I may get to stirring in this kitchen later on today.
