In early July, down in Marshfield, the greatest American composer of all, Duke Ellington, performed with his orchestra at the Fieldston. Today that restuarant is called Dukes.

At the All Star Break, in July 1956, the Boston Red Sox were in 3rd place, a game and half behind the Yankees. Ted Williams was batting 280. That would improve during the rest of the summer. He and first baseman Mickey Vernon, pitcher Frank Sullivan, pitcher Tom Brewer, and outfield Jimmy Piersall made the All Star Team. The game was held in Washington DC that year at Griffiths stadium, home of the Senators.

The first Knights of Columbus Hall was dedicated on Edward Foster Road by Archbishop Cushing. That building was taken down when the Catholic parish built its new hall on the corner of Front Street, Kent Street, and Edward Foster Road. It sat where the parking lot is today for the new church hall. The Knights of Columbus will build a new building on Route 3A in the early Seventies.

Things were going to start to happen on Cedar Point. The thousands of sightseers would begin to see crews arrive to salvage the ship.
